What strategies and methods did you find relevant when coming closer to the communities and projects you are contributing to?

The project to develop was a portfolio website template. A portfolio can be used by anyone to showcase their work, yet the immediate thought that came to mind was artists, specifically fine art artists. Portfolios are very general so it was necessary to develop it for a specific user group to keep certain criteria in mind. Before starting the project, the user experience was a key consideration as data was collected in the form of research into existing artists portfolios, and general user research as to their needs and requirements. Having a picture of current portfolios and their voice of content was useful in what the contribution would be based on or needed to include; to get an understanding of how best to complement the actual content of the portfolio and the impact the website could have on someone’s experience.

Most people have looked through a portfolio before, many have their own, so certain headings as to key aspects to include were quick to come to mind. However, the desire was to make the website portfolio resemble the look and feel of an actual exhibit or gallery; a clean appearance with a straight forward journey that focus on the artist’s work rather than the website design. The right mindset to best match the experience came by going to actual exhibitions and experiencing that journey, coming closer to the community the portfolio is developed for.
